HPP Gjanç is an operational hydropower facility located near Vithkuq in the Korçë region of southeastern Albania. Developed during the 1970s–1980s and subsequently operated under a private concession, the hydropower scheme utilizes water diverted from the upper Osum River through an approximately 6.1 km hydraulic conveyance system into the Gjanç Reservoir, with a storage capacity of approximately 18 million m³. The reservoir is formed by two earthfill embankment dams completed in 1976: Gjanç 1, with a height of 30 m and a crest length of 210 m, and Gjanç 2, with a height of 29 m and a crest length of 150 m.
An independent pre-acquisition technical due diligence assessment was undertaken on behalf of a prospective international investor to evaluate the existing hydropower infrastructure, verify its technical characteristics and identify rehabilitation requirements. The assessment incorporated field inspections, discharge measurements, hydrological analysis, hydraulic capacity verification and engineering evaluations of the water intake, diversion canal, steel siphons, canal bridges and reservoir infrastructure.
The engineering review also covered the condition of the two reservoir dams, identifying localized rehabilitation requirements, including crest maintenance, drainage improvements, erosion control and protective works using gabions and riprap. The study assessed the available water resources and indicative hydropower generation potential, providing the prospective investor with a technical basis for evaluating asset condition, required rehabilitation investments and potential capital expenditure associated with the proposed acquisition.
