The project consists of the development of a 2 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in Topojë village, within the Municipality of Fier, Albania. The project is designed in accordance with Albanian energy regulations and aligned with European standards for renewable energy systems, contributing to the national strategy for increasing solar energy penetration and reducing dependence on hydropower.
The primary objective of the project is to generate clean and sustainable electricity through solar energy conversion, ensuring efficient integration into the medium-voltage distribution network. The plant is designed with a total installed DC capacity of 2.403 MWp and an AC capacity of 2.0 MWp, optimized to maximize energy yield under local climatic conditions characterized by high solar irradiation (approximately 1552 kWh/m²/year).
The system comprises 3,534 high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules (Trina Solar, 680 W), mounted on a fixed-tilt ground-mounted structure provided by K2 Systems. The mounting system is anchored using driven pile foundations, ensuring structural stability and adaptability to site-specific geotechnical conditions. The modules are arranged in optimized strings to operate within a 1500 V DC system, minimizing transmission losses.
Energy conversion is achieved via two Sungrow SG1000 inverters (1 MW each), connected to an internal 20 kV medium-voltage network for grid export. The plant layout has been designed considering optimal Ground Coverage Ratio (GCR), shading losses, and maintenance accessibility.
Environmental considerations include minimal land disturbance, optimized land use (approximately 33,000 m²), and reduced emissions over the plant lifecycle. Operational strategies account for system losses, degradation over time, and auxiliary consumption, ensuring long-term performance with an expected annual energy production of approximately 3,457 MWh.
