The AMEL ENERGY photovoltaic project is a utility-scale solar power plant with an installed capacity of approximately 2 MW AC, located in Topojë village within the Fier municipality, an area characterized by high solar irradiation and favorable climatic conditions for photovoltaic energy generation. The project has been developed in accordance with applicable Albanian regulatory requirements and European technical standards governing renewable energy systems, grid interconnection, and electrical installations.
The primary objective of the project is to contribute to the diversification of Albania’s energy mix and enhance energy security through clean and sustainable electricity production. The system design is based on a grid-connected photovoltaic configuration operating at medium voltage, with internal collection at 20 kV and compliance with IEC standards for electrical infrastructure.
The plant comprises high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules mounted on fixed-tilt metal support structures anchored into the ground using driven pile foundations. The layout is optimized with a tilt angle of approximately 30° and row spacing of 10.5 meters to minimize shading losses and maximize annual energy yield. The DC system is designed to operate at up to 1500 V to reduce transmission losses, while two central inverters convert DC power into AC for grid export.
The electrical infrastructure includes underground cabling systems designed in accordance with IEC standards, minimizing losses and ensuring durability under environmental exposure. The facility is equipped with monitoring, control, and security systems including perimeter fencing, surveillance cameras, and remote operation capabilities.
Environmental considerations have been incorporated through efficient land use, minimal ground disturbance, and adherence to environmental assessment findings. The plant is expected to produce approximately 3,482 MWh annually, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and supporting long-term sustainable energy generation.
