The project consists of the development of a 2 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in the municipality of Fier, Albania. The project is aligned with Albania’s national strategy for increasing renewable energy generation and complies with applicable European and international electrical and construction standards, including IEC norms for electrical installations and grid connection requirements.
The primary objective of the project is to harness solar energy potential in the Fier region, characterized by favorable solar irradiation conditions (approximately 1550 kWh/m²/year), to produce clean electricity and contribute to the diversification of the national energy mix. The plant is designed to operate as a medium-voltage connected facility, interfacing with the distribution network at 20 kV.
Technically, the system comprises high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules mounted on fixed ground-mounted structures supplied by K2 Systems. The mounting system is designed with driven pile foundations embedded up to approximately 1 meter, ensuring structural stability and adaptability to site-specific soil conditions. The layout optimizes the Ground Coverage Ratio (GCR) to balance energy yield, shading losses, and land utilization.
Electric power generated by the PV modules is converted via string inverters and transmitted through underground medium-voltage cabling to the grid connection point. The electrical infrastructure is designed to minimize transmission losses, with cable routing optimized in accordance with IEC standards.
Environmental considerations include minimal land disturbance, low operational emissions, and negligible noise impact. The system incorporates monitoring, security, and remote control features to ensure efficient operation and rapid response to faults.
The plant is expected to operate over a lifecycle of at least 25–30 years, with gradual performance degradation accounted for in energy yield projections. Maintenance strategies include periodic inspection, cleaning, and system performance monitoring to ensure optimal efficiency.
