The PV Fortis–Vig project consists of the development and operation of a utility-scale photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of approximately 22.95 MWp (DC) and 19.5 MW (AC). The project is located in the village of Vig, within the administrative unit of Vig-Mnel, Municipality of Vau i Dejës, in northern Albania.
The project is developed in alignment with Albania’s legal and regulatory framework for renewable energy, including Law No. 7/2017 on the promotion of renewable energy sources and the National Energy Strategy 2018–2030. These policies aim to diversify electricity generation beyond hydropower and enhance energy security through sustainable sources.
The plant design is based on detailed solar resource assessments using Meteonorm 8.0 data and advanced modeling through PVsyst software. The system configuration includes optimized tilt angles, row spacing, and ground coverage ratio (GCR) to balance energy yield and land use efficiency while minimizing shading losses.
The installation comprises ground-mounted photovoltaic structures arranged in modular arrays, connected via DC cabling to string combiner boxes and inverters, converted to AC and transmitted through a medium-voltage electrical network, including underground cable trenches and a dedicated transmission line connected to the grid.
The site presents favorable geotechnical conditions, ensuring structural stability and ease of construction. The project incorporates environmental considerations such as minimal land disturbance, optimized layout design, and compliance with safety and operational standards.
Construction activities include site preparation, mounting structure installation, module placement, electrical integration, grid connection, and commissioning. The plant is designed for long-term operation with monitoring and security systems ensuring performance reliability and lifecycle efficiency.
