The project consists of the development of a 2 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in Topoje, within the Municipality of Fier, an area characterized by favorable solar irradiation conditions. The project is commissioned by GREEN PLUS ENERGY sh.p.k and forms part of Albania’s broader strategy to increase renewable energy production and enhance energy security in line with national and European energy policies.
The pre-feasibility and technical study, prepared by ELBA sh.p.k, evaluates solar resource potential using Meteonorm, PVGIS, and NASA datasets, confirming stable irradiation and suitable climatic conditions for efficient PV generation. The system is designed as an on-grid installation connected to the medium voltage (20 kV) distribution network, ensuring compliance with IEC standards and Albanian grid requirements.
The plant utilizes high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules (Trina Solar ~670 W class), mounted on fixed-tilt ground-mounted structures supplied by K2 Systems. The mounting system is designed with optimized tilt and spacing (GCR optimization) to balance land use and minimize shading losses. Electrical infrastructure includes DC string configurations up to 1500 V, inverter stations, internal medium-voltage cabling, and a connection line to the grid.
The site layout incorporates access roads, perimeter fencing (~695 m), lighting, and a comprehensive security and monitoring system including CCTV and remote supervision. Underground cable routing is designed per IEC standards to minimize losses and ensure durability under environmental conditions.
Environmental considerations include minimal land disturbance, optimized land use, and negligible emissions during operation. The plant is expected to operate over a 25–30 year lifecycle, with performance degradation accounted for in energy yield projections and maintenance planning.
