The “Gjoni Kalivac-1” project consists of the development of a ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) power plant with an installed capacity of 2 MW (AC), located in the village of Vig, within the Municipality of Vau i Dejës, Shkodër region, Albania. The project is developed by “Gjoni Kalivac shpk,” with technical consultancy and design services provided by “Blue Water Energy shpk.”
The project is designed in compliance with the Albanian legal framework for renewable energy, including Law No. 7/2017 on the promotion of energy from renewable sources, as well as relevant decisions of the Council of Ministers governing non-concession power generation. The development contributes to the national strategy for diversifying electricity production, reducing reliance on hydropower, and increasing solar energy penetration.
The plant has a total installed DC capacity of approximately 2.403 MWp and utilizes 3,534 high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules (Trina Solar, 680 Wp). The modules are arranged in strings of 19 panels and mounted on fixed-tilt metallic support structures with an inclination of 30°, optimized for maximum solar irradiation capture. The mounting system is anchored into the ground using driven pile foundations reaching depths of approximately 1 meter.
Energy conversion is performed via two Sungrow SG1000 inverters, each rated at 1 MW. The electrical infrastructure includes DC combiner boxes, underground low- and medium-voltage cable routing systems, and a transformer station for grid connection. Cable trenches are designed with appropriate depth and separation to ensure safety and minimize electrical losses, which are estimated at approximately 1.5%.
The expected annual energy production is حوالي 3,254 MWh, based on Meteonorm climatic data and detailed simulation modeling. Environmental considerations include optimization of land use (approx. 28,300 m²), shading reduction through row spacing design, and minimal ecological disturbance.
The plant is designed for long-term operation with high performance reliability, contributing clean energy to the national grid and supporting Albania’s renewable energy targets.
