The project consists of the development of a 2 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in the Municipality of Fier, Albania. The project has been designed in accordance with Albanian energy regulations and aligned with European technical standards for renewable energy generation and grid integration. It contributes to national targets for increasing renewable energy penetration and reducing dependence on hydropower.
The primary objective of the project is to generate clean electricity through solar energy and inject it into the medium-voltage distribution network (20 kV). The plant design is based on optimized solar resource assessment using Meteonorm climatic data, indicating favorable irradiation conditions of approximately 1550 kWh/m²/year.
The system utilizes high-efficiency monocrystalline PV modules (Trina Solar 670 W), arranged in strings to achieve a DC system voltage up to 1500 V, minimizing transmission losses. The mounting structure, supplied by K2 Systems or equivalent, is a fixed-tilt ground-mounted system anchored with driven piles up to 1 meter depth, designed to withstand local geotechnical and climatic conditions.
The plant layout optimizes the ground coverage ratio (GCR) to balance installed capacity, shading losses, and land use efficiency. Electrical infrastructure includes string inverters connected via low-voltage and medium-voltage cabling to the grid interconnection point. All cables are compliant with IEC standards and installed underground with appropriate spacing and protection.
Environmental considerations include minimal land disturbance, low noise emissions, and negligible air pollution. The project integrates monitoring and security systems for operational efficiency and asset protection. Lifecycle performance accounts for module degradation, with projected efficiency reduction over 30 years.
