The project consists of the development of a 2 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in Topojë village, within the Municipality of Fier, Albania. The project is aligned with Albania’s national energy strategy and regulatory framework promoting renewable energy generation and diversification of electricity sources, particularly through solar power integration into the medium-voltage grid.
The primary objective of the project is to generate clean, sustainable electricity while reducing dependency on hydropower and mitigating environmental impacts associated with conventional energy production. The plant is designed with a total installed capacity of 2.403 MWp DC and 2.0 MW AC, optimized for high energy yield under local climatic conditions characterized by favorable solar irradiation levels (~1552 kWh/m²/year).
The system incorporates 3,534 high-efficiency monocrystalline PV modules (Trina TSM-DE18M-II 670 series), mounted on fixed-tilt metal structures provided by K2 Systems. The mounting system is anchored using driven piles with a depth of approximately 1 meter, ensuring structural stability and minimal ground disturbance. The layout is optimized with a ground coverage ratio of 0.5 and row spacing of 10.5 meters to reduce shading losses.
Electricity conversion is handled by two Sungrow SG1000 inverters, connected via underground low- and medium-voltage cabling systems designed according to IEC standards. The internal grid operates at 20 kV, with dedicated cable trenches and separation of voltage levels to enhance safety and efficiency.
The site includes access roads, drainage systems, fencing, and security infrastructure. Environmental considerations include minimal land impact, controlled stormwater management, and long-term performance degradation planning. The plant is expected to produce approximately 3,454 MWh annually, contributing to Albania’s renewable energy targets over a projected operational lifespan exceeding 25 years.
