HPP Bistrica I and HPP Bistrica II are two operational hydroelectric power plants located along the Bistrica River in southern Albania, with a combined installed capacity of 27.5 MW. Commissioned during the 1960s and acquired by Kurum International in 2013, the plants form part of the existing Bistrica hydropower cascade and utilize established hydraulic infrastructure for renewable electricity generation.
The rehabilitation engineering project focuses on critical sections of the existing water conveyance canals affected by localized landslides, slope instability, erosion and structural deterioration. The proposed technical solutions include the reconstruction of damaged canal sections, steel pipe crossings, reinforced-concrete culverts and transition structures, together with gabion retaining walls and protective works to stabilize vulnerable sections of the hydraulic infrastructure.
The detailed rehabilitation design incorporates structural engineering, steel pipe support arrangements, reinforced-concrete elements, erosion protection measures, construction details and technical cost estimates. The engineering works intended to restore the structural integrity and reliability of the existing water conveyance system, supporting the continued operation of the Bistrica hydropower facilities without altering their installed generating capacity.
